So here it is, the morning of my third day on the job and I still haven't posted. I have been so busy, between the new job and PartyLite that finding the time to post, let alone the energy to do so, has been difficult. But I think I might be able to get a handle on things today. :) I'm hoping to meet up with a friend of mine from my last job after work today. :) But I also have to make sure that by the end of the week I have renewed my tabs and applied for a new passport.
Monday was filled with the usual first-day jitters and the sponge-like soaking up of knowledge being thrown at me. I was doing okay until my brain hit a brick wall, refusing to go any further until fed. Good thing it was almost lunch time. lol When I got back from lunch, mentally singing the praises of an hour long lunch and still smiling from my really yummy burrito at Bandido's, I was ready to tackle the job again. Now if only I could figure out what the hell I'm supposed to be doing. lol Thank goodness the system crashed! Now how often do you really get to say that? lol And it didn't crash so much as someone screwed something up with the licenses. Oops! I didn't do it!! I took the opportunity to learn a little bit more about my co-workers. I'm working with a great bunch of people. They all have an awesome sense of humor and are totally approachable.
Yesterday was busier and incredibly strange, but I'll say more about it later. Suffice it to say, on my way out the door at the end of the day I decided that there is a very good chance I will come to love my job. :D Oh, and I have a title now! I'm the Service Coordinator in charge of making sure our service department (aka Al) can make it out to service a door or window with all the parts and information he needs. It's kinda cool. :) I'm pretty much running that dept at the moment since there isn't a Service Manager yet. Honestly, I hope they don't hire one for a while. I'm doing fine now and I wouldn't be against maybe moving into that position myself eventually. :)
Well here it is. It's my last day here at Idearc Media. I've spent two years of my life here, so this really is an end to an era. I've made friends, lost friends, annoyed people, charmed people, made more phone calls than I can count, and made a few bucks to get me through while I waited and searched for a permanent job. Finally this year I gave up waiting for Idearc to start hiring contractors again and started really looking. Now that I've got another job, I know I'm going to miss the people here, but never the work. It was boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But today I get to pack up all my stuff and take it away for good. It will be nice to leave this place behind. It's time to move on. My work here is done. :)
You can take this job and shove it!!
Right now, this is how I feel:
And to all of my friends here:
I promise to post more about my new job on Monday evening... after I've had a day to find out exactly what I'll be doing. LOL All I can really say for now is that it's a customer service position at Windows Doors and More. I'll be scheduling installations, fielding phone calls when there's a problem, and coordinating things for the installations; making sure all the parts are where they're supposed to be and the installation techs have all the info that they need and things like that. Hopefully I can say more after my first day on Monday.
I got the job!!!! Wahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The job hunt is over!!!
My job hunt has been moving along so nicely lately. A week ago Friday I signed up with a company called Business Careers out of Bellevue. My representative there, Cheryl France, has been diligently working ever since to get me a real job with real benefits and more money. So far so good! I've had two interviews with a company called Windows, Doors, & More, the first a phone interview last Friday and the second a face-to-face interview at their showroom in Redmond. Yeah, that's right. It's in Redmond. But I'm hoping to avoid the truly bad traffic in the commute by going early and using back roads if I have to. Mostly I just don't want to be late for my first day if I get the job! lol
I find out today if the job is mine, but I have a really good feeling about it. For starters, I'm the first candidate that's ever made it past the phone interview. They really seem to like me. I hope that's not just wishful thinking. But also, I got a fortune cookie at World Wrapps this weekend that specifically said that I will soon be asked to join to a team and to work cooperatively. :D
I was feeling so good about it that after all of my interview stuff was taken care of, I wandered over to Bellevue Square to do a little window shopping. :) After a yummy sandwich at Specialty's I devoured a cupcake from New York Cupcakes. It's amazing how much childish glee can be found in a cupcake. I was dressed nicely with frosting on my lips and crumbs raining down from my mouth and I was almost laughing I was so happy. lol Even if the job doesn't work out, at least it was a tasty cupcake!!
Okay, after all the fuss I made this morning, turned out the meeting was really nothing like what I was afraid it might be. Actually, in a way it turned out to be good news. It's a little hard to explain, but at least I know it's not likely they'll dissolve my dept. any time soon. Still, my contract is up in a little less than 3 months and boy am I ready to move on. I've already sent off one application and I'll send out others. :) Thanks Wanda for all your help!!
Another little blurb. I've discovered an awesome website for user content restaurant reviews! Check out Menuism! Look me up! Same name and everything. Anyway, this is a must see website!! Check out my review of the Crab Pot. I'm rather proud of that one. :D
Yesterday was probably the worst day I've had at work here ever. They had a meeting for all the permanent people (not me) and it was announced that two of the depts were being moved to the California office and all the employees in those depts were being laid off, though they would be opening some positions up in other depts so they wouldn't have to completely lose their jobs. On top of that, a friend of mine who was already going to quit next week was told she could leave at any time... and she did. She was gone before noon.
Today's not looking much better. The boss has announced a meeting at 9 am for my dept alone... I suspect that by the end of the day, I may not have a job anymore.
